1 22 hours ago Full Job Description Research Lab Assistant PK (Pharmacokinetic) Technician- START Midwest General Summary Under general supervision, this position performs set-up, processing, handling, and shipping procedures within the START Midwest Pharmacokinetic Department.
Job Requirements Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Career or Educational training in Laboratory Assistant setting.
On the job training will suffice in the place of education requirements.
Experience:
Two years of work experience in similar job or work environment.
Other:
Excellent phlebotomy skills needed.
IATA Shipping Safety Training to be completed upon start of employment.
Keyboarding skills and the ability to perform routine data entry and retrieval on the computer.
Preferred Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Education/Experience Medical Assistant Degree with Phlebotomy certification preferred.
Medical terminology extremely helpful.
Excellent people skills a plus.
Self motivated employee with willingness to accept and make changes.
Must be able to work, in many cases, with minimal supervision.
Must be able to tolerate latex rich environment.
Frequent hand washing required.
Must be able to distinguish all colors of the spectrum.
Must be able to prioritize and organize workload.
Must be able to work effectively and efficiently under tight deadlines, high volumes and multiple interruptions.
Must pass yearly competency testing.
Must have effective written and verbal communication skills in order to deal with various personality types of physicians, staff and patients.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities (Essential Functions) Responsible for the set up of sample collection kits containing all needed specimen vials, time of collection and all pertinent information per study specifications.
Processes, handles, and ships study samples per study specifications.
Recognizes inconsistencies in collection tubes and times and take appropriate corrective action.
Contacts Nurse immediately to have situation corrected before patient leaves the building.
Performs venipunctures as needed in accordance with written policies and procedures after properly identifying the patient.
Performs administrative functions associated with the Pharmacokinetic Department, to include work tally records, filing, and sample log in and out.
Completion of study forms to include but not limited to:
shipping logs, sample requisition forms, case report forms.
Responsible for inventory control and re-supply of reagents and supplies--study and departmental.
Restocks lab supplies on a daily basis.
Responsible for cleaning and sanitizing the workstation and surrounding work space after use.
Responsible for the maintenance and cleaning of equipment as required.
Performs other duties within START Midwest as requested or assigned.
Function as a team member by expanding his/her responsibilities as directed by management to facilitate optimal workflow within the cancer center.
Communicates and interacts with peers and other departments in a manner that is viewed as having a positive effect on patient services and CHCWM staff morale.
Interacts effectively with patients/family members and demonstrates sensitivity in regards to cultural diversity, age specific needs and confidentiality.
This employee has access to medical records daily.

Lab Information System, Entire Chart/Electronic Medical Record (EMR), ARIA START Midwest (EMR) Work Environment High stress, critical time based, laboratory work environment.
Exposure to blood/ body fluids and a variety of infectious diseases.
Occasional exposure to irritating noxious odors.
Exposure to dry ice.
Exposed to a variety of personality types from physicians, staff, patients and patients' family members.
Challenging patient population for performing venipunctures.
Approximately 75% of time spent standing and or walking.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
