My client's parent company is a multi- billion dollar global automotive supplier. They have over 100,000 employees at 300
manufacturing facilities worldwide. They manufacture automotive parts supplied to primarily: General Motors, Ford, and Chrysler. Outside of the Big 3, they also supply to companies like Volkswagen, BMW, Toyota, etc.
We are looking for TWO Manufacturing Engineer to work at one of their two Western Michigan plants.
(1000
employees between both plants with sales roughly around $300 million).

Manufacturing Engineers for both locations are primarily there to support the Assembly operations. Products: range from interior and exterior plastic parts, to misc. electronic / mechanical parts. They are a plastic injection molding company so they design it, mold it, paint it, assemble it and then ship it to the customer.
Plant #1 - Roughly 220 employees with over $90 million in sales. (Mold, Paint and Assembly operations.) - 3 shift operation. This ME would work predominantly for the Assembly department but will do some work on product flow and Lean type activities plant wide between mold, batch paint and assembly. Main customer is Ford with many past model service jobs with GM, Chrysler, Honda and Toyota. Roughly 30 different assembly cells with multiple pieces of equipment.

Plant #2 - Roughly 800 employees with over $200 million in sales. (Mold, Paint and Assembly Operations.)- 3 shift operations. Main customers are GM, Honda, and Chrysler. The ME will work specifically within the assembly department. No responsibility for the paint or molding areas of the plant. Roughly 300 employees in Assembly. Roughly 50 different assembly cells with multiple pieces of equipment.

Assembly equipment consists of PLC driven electric and pneumatically powered stations. Typical assembly processes are heat staking, screw driving, glass press, tape applications, and end of line testers. All equipment is very poka yoke intensive with items like cameras, color sensors, proximity switches and measuring devices.

The ideal Manufacturing Engineer candidate will be self-driven and have extensive experience in Lean manufacturing implementation. (Assembly environment preferred.) This should include; Standardized work implementation; cycle time/throughput improvements; process flow improvements; coordinating launches of new programs into the facility at SOP; driving cost save improvements, the ability to write standardized work for varying levels/ grades of employees; interpersonal skills, ability to achieve all metric targets for productivity, scrap, indirect labor, Lean Manufacturing audit, Cost save ideas, etc

Lean and Assembly Expertise are what is Key! ( Assembly experience is a huge bonus.) Machine paced ME's are more prevalent, however when you introduce man paced processes and the inefficiencies that go with it, it takes someone who truly understands process flow and elimination of waste to thrive in an Assembly plant environment.
