Law Enforcement Coordination Specialist

Law Enforcement Coordination Specialist (Community Outreach and Public Information Coordinator) Serves as a specialist in the District's Law Enforcement Coordination Program and the Community Outreach and Public Information program. Organizes and oversees the execution of all public outreach activities of the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of Michigan. The incumbent will plan and coordinate outreach to law enforcement as well as non-law enforcement communities, community representatives, public and private organizations, Indian Tribes and tribal representatives, members of the public and the professional media throughout the district and beyond. Duties will include:
Building partnerships with law enforcement and non-law enforcement organizations alike to accomplish U.S. Attorney's Office objectives Promoting community engagement with law enforcement and coordination and communication among law enforcement agencies Raising awareness and understanding of Department of Justice initiatives, strategies, programs, resources and accomplishments Providing important public service information Developing, organizing and overseeing training programs for federal, state, local and Tribal law enforcement agencies Serving as the primary media contact Planning and coordinating press events Communicating with the professional media Disseminating information to public audiences Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress. To be eligible at the GS-09 level, you must meet at least ONE of the following conditions, as defined below:
Specialized Experience, Education, OR a combination of Education and Experience. Specialized
Experience:
One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as organizing, administering or overseeing communication, engagement or partnership development among law enforcement agencies and/or non-law enforcement entities. Qualifying specialized experience involves the following types of duties:
building partnerships with law enforcement and/or non-law enforcement organizations, leaders and representatives, developing and overseeing training programs for federal, state, local and Tribal law enforcement agencies, and/or serving as the primary point of contact for public information and communicating in person and in writing with professional media, and planning and coordinating press events. Education:
One of the following types of education in a related field (e.g., Criminal Justice):
a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree.Education at the graduate level must be in an accredited college or university and must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position. Combinations of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. GS-11:

independently planning, designing and carrying out programs, campaigns, and studies, analyzing the needs of law enforcement organizations or high-level community organizations having different goals, priorities, and approaches to issues, developing and overseeing training programs for federal, state, local and Tribal law enforcement agencies, and/or serving as the primary point of contact for public information and communicating in person and in writing with professional media, planning and coordinating press events, and independently resolving problems without direct supervision. Education:
One of the following types of education in a related field (e.g., Criminal Justice):
a Ph.D. or equivalent doctorate degree; OR 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree. Education at the graduate level must be in an accredited college or university and must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position. Combining Education and
Experience:
Combinations of successfully completed graduate education and experience may be used to meet total qualification requirements. In order to qualify based on a combination, graduate education must be in excess of 2 full years. GS-12:
To be eligible at the GS-12 level, you must meet one full year of specialized experience as defined below. Specialized
Experience:
One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS 11 level in Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as organizing, administering or overseeing communication, engagement or partnership development for Federal, state, or local law enforcement agencies and/or non-law enforcement entities. Qualifying specialized experience involves the following types of duties:
developing alternative approaches to promote law enforcement, community activities and communication policies, using judgement and discretion to interpret and apply guidelines that requires deviation from accepted practices, independently planning, designing and carrying out programs, campaigns, and studies, analyzing the needs of law enforcement organizations or high-level community organizations having different goals, priorities, and approaches to issues, developing and overseeing training programs for federal, state, local and Tribal law enforcement agencies, and/or serving as the primary point of contact for public information and communicating in person and in writing with professional media, planning and coordinating press events, and independently resolving problems without direct supervision. Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies.
