) A spicier mix of power and handling ?EUR Motor Trend First Drive:
2008 Porsche GTS, January 2008 Motor Trend's review continued:
Porsche has fashioned a new sports machine that comfortably seats four adults and hauls lots of luggage, but we're not referring, yet, to the Panamera Gran Turismo sedan.
It won't reach showrooms until 2009, but, to the chagrin of purists who still mourn the day Porsche began building trucks, the Panamera's promised combination of performance and luxurious utility is available, right now, with the 2008 Cayenne GTS, our seat-of-the-pants choice as the best-handling SUV on the planet.
As to performance:
Powered by a freer-breathing, 405-horsepower version of the 385-horsepower, 4.
8-liter V-8 offered in the Cayenne S The GTS also gets down the road, paved or otherwise, with genuine Porsche spiritedness.
The factory claims (conservatively, we think) 0-to-62-mph dashes of 6.
5 seconds with the six-speed Tiptronic S gearbox and will reach 100 mph in around 15 seconds, but this more than sufficient acceleration isn't even the GTS's core strength.
That core strength? The GTS stands out from the crowd of five Cayenne models by its handling.
Offered here is a 2008 Porsche Cayenne GTS in somewhat sinister-looking quadruple-black (exterior paint, interior leather, tinted cabin glass, and wheels all in black).
The Porsche's overall condition is excellent across the board, inside, outside, under the hood, and under the vehicle.
The sole hiccup on its Carfax record is a 2017 accident involving another car hitting the Cayenne's rear end (an unwanted tribute to the Cayenne's short stopping distance); the damage involved has long since been professionally repaired leaving no remaining sign of the incident.
The Cayenne's odometer shows 158,616 miles in all, approximately 12,200 miles per-year, well below the 15k miles-per-year Carfax regards as average.
The exterior black paint shows beautifully across the entire vehicle.
Porsche is well-known for its state-of-the-art paint-application technology and that expertise is on full display here.
(Be sure to view the close-up photos in the gallery to assess paint condition.
) Sheet metal and black trim is free of damage.
Dark-tinted cabin glass and all lighting lenses are free of cracks or other damage.
GTS badging in red on the Cayenne's lower flanks and GTS (with only the S in red) on the rear adds a touch of flair.
Quad exhaust tips hint at the Cayenne's power.
Red-painted, Porsche-branded brake calipers and large rotors are visible through the gloss-black, 21-inch,10-spoke wheels (with colored-Porsche-crest center caps).
Achilles ATR Sport 235/35 all-season performance tires are mounted.
Interior surfaces-all in black-retain their like-new appearance.
The black leather upholstery with Alcantara inserts is especially pleasing to the eye, and free of significant wear indication, much less damage.
Well-maintained brushed-metal interior trim nicely communicates the SUV's sporting DNA as opposed to more common wood trim.
Door trim and dashboard surfaces are unscarred.
The multi-function, airbag steering wheel with colored Porsche crest frames the driver-focused, 3-pod instrument cluster.
The shifter for the automatic transmission and controls for the adjustable-suspension settings are mounted on the console.
Comprehensive infotainment and navigation-system controls and screen.
