Even International Harvester-the tractor company-had the Scout.
And General Motors hadnothing? Into that sport-utility vacuum, the Chevrolet K5 Blazer was born.
With it, GM created a 4?-4 that was both a direct response to the existing spectrum of SUVs and yet also apart from it.
The key difference was size:
Unlike its would-be rivals, the Blazer was based on the automaker's successful full-size pickup truck.
That cost-saving measure allowed it both to come to market quickly and to deliver greater capability than its competition.
The market reaction? The Chevrolet K5 Blazer was an instant success, and it wasn't long before the vehicle dominated SUV sales.
Offered here is a highly optioned, survivor 1977 Chevrolet Blazer SUV in its original-color Mahogany metallic-and-white over tan-orange-and-black-checked cloth (a Cheyenne-option).
The truck's odometer reads 102,309 miles, a very low 2,300 miles per-year on average since new.
The Blazer's condition is outstanding overall, a testimony to the fastidious care it has received from prior owners across more than four decades.
The condition of the truck's exterior paint is excellent:
even, smooth finish with excellent gloss and deep reflectivity.
Chrome trim with the ocre yellow inlay was a 1977 only trim where the brown and white colors meet are not chipped or faded.
Body panels are free of damage:
no dings or dents anywhere including on the white fiberglass-reinforced plastic roof.
Even the brushed-metal tailgate trim piece is free of dings.
The Blazer's look is entirely original.
Chrome bumpers front and rear, and factory-optioned chrome wheel-well trim pieces are free of dents.
The front, single-headlight grille is similarly undamaged.
Cabin glass and lighting lenses are clear and free of cracks.
All factory badging-including the gold bowtie grille emblem, K5 Blazer front-fender badges, Cheyenne rear-fender badges, and Chevrolet emblem on the tailgate-is in place and very well-maintained.
Factory steel wheels with chrome trim rings are mounted with BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A tires.
The truck's interior shows many nice touches and upgrades that were part of the optional Cheyenne trim package, the highest option-level then available.
In particular, the tan-orange-and-black plaid upholstery (trimmed in tan vinyl) on all seating surfaces is a rare sight, and in this beautifully kept condition, rarer still.
There are no rips or tears in the fabric, and even indications of use are absent.
Likewise, the woodgrain-and textured-metal-trimmed door panels are free of wear.
Brown carpeting covers the cabin floors continuing throughout the cargo area.
Elsewhere, light-tan molded trim pieces-including the front storage box between the seats-is largely free of wear or any indication of careless use.
